What Is the Pass Plus Course?

Pass Plus is a practical driver training scheme developed by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). It is designed to help newly qualified drivers improve their skills and gain additional driving experience.

The course consists of at least six hours of training and covers six essential driving modules. There is no additional practical driving test. Instead, your instructor assesses your progress throughout the training.

Town Driving

Learn how to manage busy urban roads, complex junctions, traffic lights, pedestrian crossings and different road users. Training focuses on improving observation, anticipation and decision-making in challenging traffic situations.

Driving in All Weather Conditions

Understand how rain, fog, snow, ice and strong winds affect road safety. Learn about stopping distances, vehicle control and adjusting your driving to suit different conditions. Where particular weather conditions are unavailable, relevant topics can be covered through discussion.

Driving on Rural Roads

Develop confidence when driving on country roads, including narrow lanes, sharp bends, changing speed limits and areas with limited visibility. Learn to anticipate hazards, select appropriate speeds and manage different road conditions safely.

Driving at Night

Improve your understanding of driving in darkness, using vehicle lights correctly and recognising hazards when visibility is reduced. Your instructor will explain how to adapt your driving when travelling at night.

Driving on Dual Carriageways

Build confidence when joining and leaving dual carriageways, selecting appropriate lanes, maintaining safe following distances and overtaking safely. Develop better awareness of surrounding traffic and learn how to plan ahead.

Motorway Driving

Gain valuable experience with motorway driving, including joining and leaving procedures, lane discipline, safe overtaking and maintaining appropriate following distances. You’ll also learn about motorway safety and what to do if your vehicle breaks down.
